In 1993, the Labour Court concluded that a senior supervisor’s employment with Measurex (Ireland) Limited was terminal and that his selection for redundancy was not unfair. The worker had 15 years’ service. The Technical Engineering And Electrical Union argued that the selection was unfair and suitable positions remained. The company said restructuring was necessary and no suitable redeployment role existed. The Court recommended that the worker accept the company’s financial terms and explore setting up an operation with its support. The recommendation was signed on 11 March 1993.
