In 1993, the Labour Court recommended that British Midland Airways recognise the Amalgamated Transport And General Workers Union’s right to represent customer service agents who were union members. The dispute concerned 12 agents at Dublin Airport who joined the union in May 1992. The company said it gave sole negotiating rights for clerical and administrative staff to A.P.E.X. and argued that recognising another union could cause multiple representation and disharmony. The recommendation was signed on 10 March 1993.
