The Labour Court recommended a payment of £60 per person to Iarnrod Eireann staff who had agreed to and implemented reduced working hours. The recommendation, signed on 18 January 1993, was a supplementary step arising from an earlier recommendation on the 39-hour week. The Court said it had not fully succeeded in changing the company’s decision, but recommended that the workers concerned accept the payment to settle the issue while leaving the earlier recommendation in place. The parties were Irish Congress of Trade Unions (C.I.E. Trade Union Group) and National Bus and Rail Union.
