The Labour Court recommended that 7.5% of the off-scale bonus paid to Team Aer Lingus Executive Managers be added to basic salary, and that the parties discuss future bonus arrangements. Its recommendation was signed on 14 January 1993. Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and Irish Aviation Executive Staff Association said managers’ pensionable earnings were falling relative to the grades they supervised and that transferring part of the bonus would have little cost impact. Team Aer Lingus cited weak market conditions, cash-flow concerns and the scheme’s potential for higher returns. The Court said it considered how the company had treated other employees before recommending the transfer.
