In 1992, the Labour Court recommended that Irish Rail restore a worker to a signalman position on the Cobh/Cork line after a dispute over his removal from the Little Island signalperson role. The Court found no grounds for compensation. The National Bus And Rail Union said the worker had been wrongly removed and argued his position should have been kept open pending a medical review. Irish Rail said he had been redeployed after being found unfit for signalling duties and that the Little Island position had since been suppressed. The Court recommended restoration on equitable grounds and said the parties should discuss how to implement it.
