In 1992, the Labour Court recommended that the Royal Dublin Society not insist at that stage on proposed changes to overtime arrangements. The recommendation, dated 29 October 1992, left the Society able to renew its claim if its financial situation deteriorated further. The Society's cost-cutting proposals included a 10% reduction in overtime costs through changes to working hours and overtime rates. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union argued that workers had already helped achieve savings and should not face worse conditions. The Court took account of the Society's financial difficulties, staff reductions and workers' cooperation with other cost-cutting measures.
