In 1992, the Labour Court recommended that six laboratory technicians at Bord Bainne agree to the company's proposal to promote some of them to senior grade. The recommendation was dated 28 October 1992. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought regrading, arguing that the technicians' jobs had been assessed separately from the main grading structure. Bord Bainne said the salary range was favourable and offered to consider promoting three technicians to senior roles with additional responsibilities. The Court considered the evaluation carefully designed and carried out, except for the technicians' collective rejection of it. It also recommended that the company recall its consultants to recheck the evaluation for the technician grade.
