In 1992, the Labour Court recommended that Irish Press Newspapers Limited reject the Amalgamated Engineering Union’s claim for an £85 weekly pay increase for fitters. It said the union’s loss-of-relativity claims were invalid under the P.E.S.P. and that the fitters had not complied with the 1990 Supplemental Agreement. The recommendation was dated 23 October 1992. The Court recommended that the fitters end restrictions on work practices and arrange satisfactory shift cover. It also recommended continuing the temporary arrangement while the parties discussed removing helpers from the department.
