In 1992, the Labour Court recommended that Roches Stores and the Irish Distributive and Administrative Trade Union discuss which industrial relations matters should be handled centrally and which at individual stores. The recommendation was signed on 7 October 1992. The union sought national discussions on common issues including pensions, staff discounts, leave and equal opportunities. Roches Stores argued that its nine outlets had different local conditions, making store-level negotiations more suitable for some matters. The Court considered some matters better suited to local agreement but saw merit in central discussions on general industrial relations principles. It recommended immediate discussions to agree how future industrial relations matters should be handled across the group.
