In 1992, the Labour Court recommended that the Office Of Public Works implement the local authority rate for Shannon lockkeepers, with any retrospection left to direct talks with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union. It also recommended discussions on grading. The union sought pay alignment, retrospective pay and regrading. The Court recommended implementing an agreed working-hours and Sunday-working offer and that workers begin working under amended bye-laws. Its recommendation was signed on 3 September 1992.
