In 1992, the Labour Court recommended that Sciprint Limited renew its offer to the Graphical, Paper & Media Union to implement a replacement agreement from 6 April. The recommendation, signed on 11 August 1992, also said the company should increase its lump-sum offer to buy out the travel allowance to the equivalent of 15 months. The union opposed the proposed treatment of the allowance, while the company said it had made a generous offer and would not increase benefits for a minority of staff. The Court said different unions or groups at the plant should not end up with different agreements and conditions, and recommended that the union accept the renewed offer. If the buyout was not accepted, the allowance would remain as it stood for negotiation when the agreement ended in 1984.
