Labour Court recommends £400 payment in Apricot dispute over four workers

The Labour Court recommended that Apricot Limited pay £400 to the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union for distribution to four workers, if the recommendation is accepted and the dispute resolved. The Court said Apricot should first seek staff from the union's list, but did not consider it unreasonable in the circumstances for the company to exclude the four workers. The recommendation was signed on 13 August 1992. The dispute arose after Apricot, the new catering franchise holder at Leopardstown Racecourse, declined to employ four workers dismissed by the previous contractor. The union said custom and practice was to hire from its panel; Apricot cited the workers' previous employment records.
