The Labour Court recommended that Bord Gais Eireann raise a proposed compensation amount from £4,000 to £8,000 and another from £500 to £1,000 in its new agreement with two unions. It recommended that the amended offer be accepted by the union side. The recommendation was signed on 19 August 1992. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and the Automobile General Engineering and Mechanical Operatives' Union also sought better contractor protections, higher service pay and a further 5% increase. The Court recommended a guarantee that contractor use would not prevent full use of the company's own staff, and acceptance of the company's proposal to consolidate service pay into basic pay. It did not recommend the additional 5% claim.
