In 1992, the Labour Court recommended a retrospective payment of £4,000 to Ormond Printing Company workers who had operated the Perfect Binder since 1988. It also recommended a 5% payment for the relevant bindery personnel and that one operator cover every four feeder stations where reasonably practicable. The recommendation was dated 12 May 1992. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought a rate for operating the machine, citing increased productivity and additional handling duties. Ormond Printing Company argued that any increase should be self-funding to protect its competitiveness.
