In 1992, the Labour Court recommended a phased pay adjustment for about 800 workers at Baxter Healthcare S.A.'s plants in Castlebar and Swinford. It recommended a 2% adjustment from 30 September 1991 and a further 1% from 5 October 1992, while dropping the company's credit-transfer proposal for the time being. The dispute concerned the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union's claim for the full 3% increase under the Programme for Economic and Social Progress and its opposition to credit transfer. The Court recommended that the amended terms be accepted by the parties. The recommendation was signed on 14 April 1992.
