The Labour Court recommended that A.S. Richardson Limited recognise the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s right to negotiate for employees in its membership. The recommendation was signed on 4 February 1992. The company employed 57 people at Newtowngore, County Leitrim. The union sought recognition to negotiate for 44 production workers who had joined it. The company favoured its works committee and said employee support for union representation should be tested by an independent ballot.
