In 1991, the Labour Court recommended against a claim by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union for weekend payments for child care assistants employed by the National Association For Cerebral Palsy at its Marino Clinic in Bray. The recommendation was signed on 28 November 1991. The union said assistants worked alternate weekends and that comparable workers received premiums. The Association said its 1984 consolidated salary scale already covered shift and weekend work, and that it faced financial constraints. The Court noted both parties agreed that the scale incorporated weekend premia and overtime, and found no grounds to reintroduce payments because other organisations paid them.
