Labour Court recommends improved pay and conditions for St Fiachra’s Training Centre director

In 1991, the Labour Court recommended that the unnamed director of St Fiachra’s Training Centre in Letterkenny receive the pay scale and conditions of a Tullamore Community Workshop manager from 1 January 1991. The recommendation was dated 30 July 1991. The Amalgamated Transport and General Workers’ Union sought improved pay and conditions, saying the director’s salary did not reflect his duties and he lacked benefits available in comparable full-time roles. The centre’s management committee supported the claim but said it could not grant the increase because FÁS determined the terms and finances. FÁS said it was not the director’s employer and had no approval to increase its salary funding. The Court also recommended restoring unpaid increments for the director’s teaching responsibilities, with full retrospection.
