The Labour Court recommended that Irish Rail honour its commitment not to compel stationmaster transfers, after a proposed move from Boyle to Longford. The recommendation was dated 26 July 1991. Irish Rail said it had tried to accommodate the stationmaster and needed to continue rationalising stations. The Transport Salaried Staffs' Association said his domestic circumstances made a transfer unsuitable. The Court noted that 13 of 18 proposed stations had become halts and asked both sides to keep seeking an arrangement that allowed worker discretion while station rationalisation continued.
