In 1991, the Labour Court recommended two years' loss-of-earnings compensation for staff affected by the Western Health Board's reorganisation of psychiatric services in County Roscommon. It also recommended travel expenses of £5.50 a day for two years for staff moved from Castlerea to Roscommon. The recommendation was dated 19 July 1991. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, National Nursing Council and the Psychiatric Nurses Association of Ireland sought terms for staff affected by the changes. The Court recommended that the unions accept the board's proposed £653 allowance pending a wider review. It supported phasing in roster changes considered necessary for patient care and did not recommend extending other allowances.
