The Labour Court recommended on 22 April 1991 that Murrays Europcar Limited pay £17,500 to an accounts clerk with 22 years’ service. The Court did not recommend reinstatement, finding that relations between the worker and the company had irrevocably broken down. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union disputed the dismissal and sought reinstatement. The company said the dismissal was fair, citing the worker’s employment record, conduct and final warning. The Court instead recommended the payment, taking account of the worker’s length of service, and recommended that company and worker representatives meet to arrange how it would be paid.
