In 1991, the Labour Court recommended no reimbursement for an Assistant Chief Nursing Officer at St. Canice's Hospital after the South Eastern Health Board deducted three days' pay when the nurse did not report for rostered day duty. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and The Psychiatric Nurses Association of Ireland argued that an agreement kept Assistant Chief Nursing Officers on night duty and that the pay should be restored. The Court found the agreement did not give a staff grade a permanent right to a particular roster and said the Board was not in breach. It recommended negotiations if staffing changes caused clear and quantifiable losses. The recommendation was signed on 8 April 1991.
