In 1991, the Labour Court recommended a £5 weekly pay rise from 1 January for eight domestic general workers at All Hallows College, followed by discussions on applying the Hotels Joint Labour Committee Employment Regulation Order to them. The Service Industrial Professional Technical Union had sought a £20 weekly increase, citing the workers' duties, long service and weekend work. All Hallows College said its financial position made a rise unaffordable. The Court considered the parties' submissions and the College's accounts before making its recommendation, signed on 5 April 1991.
