In 1990, the Labour Court recommended that Kerry Farm Supplies Limited, the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and affected drivers begin detailed talks about contract work or other employment. It did not recommend the union’s claim for greater redundancy terms. The recommendation was signed on 19 October 1990. The Court said the drivers’ options had not been properly investigated and had become entangled with the claim for enhanced redundancy terms. It found the circumstances did not warrant greater redundancy entitlement and said discussions should begin without further delay.
