Labour Court recommends 39-hour week for Ballinamore Textiles staff

The Labour Court recommended that Ballinamore Textiles Limited agree to a 39-hour week for six supervisors, three quality control personnel and two catering personnel. The recommendation was signed on 18 June 1990, with the method of implementation to be settled through local negotiations. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought the shorter week. The company argued that paid tea breaks left the workers with a net working week of 38¾ hours and that the Framework Agreement on Hours of Work did not apply. The Court recommended the change and local talks on how to put it in place.
