In 1990, the Labour Court recommended that Youghal Carpet (Yarns) Limited’s proposals to reduce supervisory staffing be accepted, subject to redundancy payments amended in line with those recommended for managerial staff. The recommendation was signed on 11 June 1990. The company proposed eliminating three supervisory positions as part of a rationalisation plan, saying savings were needed to protect its viability. The Irish Distributive And Administrative Trade Union argued the reductions would increase workloads and harm supervision.
