The Labour Court recommended that the Irish Distributive & Administrative Trade Union accept Quinnsworth Limited's offer to raise the store detectives' travel allowance from £5 to £7. It also recommended that Quinnsworth raise the travelling-time rate from time-and-a-half to double time, with the revised payments effective from 1 March 1990. The recommendation was signed on 30 May 1990. The union had sought a mileage allowance, saying detectives needed their own cars to reach stores that were difficult to access by public transport. Quinnsworth said its existing travel arrangements were clear and offered the higher allowance instead.
