Labour Court declines Odlums millmen's pay-relativity claim

In 1990, the Labour Court found no grounds to concede the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union's claim to restore a pay relativity for seven millmen at Odlums Group Limited's Portarlington mill. It recommended further talks aimed at resolving the issue through productivity. The recommendation was signed on 25 May 1990. The union said the workers' skills and responsibilities had historically been recognised by a pay differential. The company argued that productivity agreements had changed rates and that the former difference was not an agreed differential.
