In 1990, the Labour Court recommended that the National Association of Transport Employees (a division of S.I.P.T.U.)'s claim for a 3% increase in basic pay for both grades of Irish Rail machine operators be conceded. The claim covered 27 operators who used radios on track machines. The Court cited both grades' liability to drive the equipment. The recommendation was signed on 5 March 1990.
