The Labour Court did not recommend concession of the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim for qualifications allowances for care staff at Finglas Children’s Centre. The recommendation was signed on 12 March 1990. The union sought allowances for care staff with relevant degrees or diplomas on the same 95% basis as teachers’ allowances. Management argued the qualifications were desirable but not essential and that qualified care staff performed the same duties as other care staff.
