The Labour Court recommended an immediate resolution of outstanding safety issues after National Medical Care introduced a policy requiring manufacturing staff to wear safety glasses. The recommendation was signed on 13 February 1990. The Services, Industrial, Professional Technical Union said the company had introduced the policy without prior consultation. The Court said employers had a statutory duty to provide protective equipment and that the union should not seek to negotiate a reduction in safety measures the company considered necessary.
