Labour Court recommends talks on Beaumont Hospital catering roster

In 1990, the Labour Court recommended that Beaumont Hospital and the Local Government and Public Services Union negotiate an accommodation over the rosters of three catering officers. The recommendation was signed on 1 February 1990, with negotiations to be completed by 9 February. The Union sought a return to 9am–5pm working, saying staff had agreed to extended hours on the understanding that the arrangement was temporary. Beaumont said seven-day cover from 7.30am to 7.30pm was needed for the larger hospital operation. The Court said conditions based on commitments made to transferring staff should change only through discussion and agreement, while recognising the need for management cover beyond 9am–5pm.
