Labour Court recommends one week’s shift premium for Bord Na Mona workers

In 1990, the Labour Court recommended an ex gratia payment equal to one week’s shift premium for Bord Na Mona shift workers who lost the premium during temporary day work. It did not recommend compensation for drivers using a new fuel-dispensing system. The recommendation was signed on 1 February 1990. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought compensation for 65 shift workers and 35 drivers. Bord Na Mona said shift-premium payments had already continued for three weeks and the new system did not add responsibility for fuel stocks. The Court recommended the shift-premium payment in the interests of good relations and found no grounds to concede the technology claim.
