The Labour Court recommended reducing a school bus driver’s two-week unpaid suspension to one week and compensating him for his net loss for the second week. It did not recommend payment of his legal costs. The recommendation was signed on 24 January 1990. The Federated Workers Union Of Ireland sought the driver’s lost pay and legal costs after a bus accident. The Court found that poor communication contributed to the dispute over whether he had reported faulty brakes. It considered that he had not taken enough steps to make the defect clear, but did not accept Bus Eireann’s claim that he had fabricated the brake problem. The driver had been acquitted of all charges in the District Court case.
