The Labour Court recommended that the Irish Transport And General Workers' Union’s 24 day workers in Swiss Wire Limited’s seaming department agree to an even distribution across three shifts. The recommendation was signed on 23 January 1990. The union argued that changing the workers’ schedules could cause childcare and transport difficulties. Swiss Wire said shift work was covered by its agreement with the union and would distribute staff more efficiently. The Court said the company might consider childcare assistance for workers who needed it.
