In 1990, the Labour Court recommended that Showerings Ltd not concede the Irish Transport and General Workers Union and Amalgamated Transport and General Workers Union’s claim that a 1974 agreement applied to fork-lift drivers. The recommendation was signed on 18 January 1990. The claim followed a dispute over whether a fork-lift driver was entitled to a helper when unloading goods. The unions said the agreement applied to the work and sought discussions on settlement terms. Showerings Ltd argued it covered transport drivers, not fork-lift drivers. The Court found the agreement had no relevance to fork-lift drivers.
