In 1990, the Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Transport Salaried Staffs Association’s claim against Irish Rail for compensation for 11 clerical workers who lost meal concessions. The recommendation was signed on 10 January 1990. The union sought £3,000 for each worker. Irish Rail said integration into the company’s clerical structure brought pay increases and other benefits, and that the union could have rejected the proposals if it considered them less advantageous.
