The Labour Court recommended that eight delivery workers at Cantrell And Cochrane (Dublin) Limited accept either of the company's proposals for alternative employment or contractor terms. If they accepted the company's proposed delivery rates, the parties were to negotiate compensation based on the difference between those rates and the workers' 1988 earnings. The dispute arose as the company sought to reorganise local deliveries after 18 other workers accepted severance terms. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said the proposed changes could cut earnings by about 25% and sought to retain the workers' existing terms. The recommendation was signed on 10 January 1990.
