The Labour Court recommended that Thompson Engineering Limited and the National Engineering And Electrical Trade Union negotiate objective criteria for future redundancies. The recommendation was signed on 19 October 1989. The union sought last-in, first-out selection for 15 workers in a redundancy dispute. The Court said seniority should apply unless otherwise agreed, but recommended that the current position stand because the men concerned had in effect left voluntarily.
