The Labour Court recommended four extra annual leave days for psychiatric nurses redeployed from Our Lady's Hospital to St Stephen's Hospital, with two days a year over two years when they return. The recommendation was signed on 17 October 1989.
The Southern Health Board and the Irish Transport And General Workers Union disputed compensation for staff moved after part of Our Lady's Psychiatric Hospital closed and patients transferred to St Stephen's Hospital in Glanmire, about eight miles away. The union sought travel costs or transport, six extra leave days on return and free meals, citing disruption and a different work roster.
The Board opposed disturbance payments, citing government policy, service changes and financial pressures. The Court did not recommend travel expenses or free meals, but said the different rota at St Stephen's justified the four extra leave days.
