The Labour Court recommended that claimants at Warner Lambert (Ireland) Limited’s Gum Base plant accept the company’s offer to raise the job skills premium to the level at the pharmaceutical plant in return for eliminating output quotas. The company should increase its lead-in payment to £1,200 for each claimant and negotiate compensation if overtime earnings fell, using 1984 to 1988 as the base period. The recommendation was signed on 22 February 1989. The Irish Transport & General Workers' Union disputed the company’s evidence about savings and said it lacked financial information to assess the value of the productivity changes.
