In 1989, the Labour Court recommended that Management Science And Finance accept Bord Na Mona’s offer to craft analysts redeployed to craft grades. The recommendation was signed on 23 February 1989. The offer comprised the terms in the company’s letter of 26 July 1988 plus a £500 lump sum. Bord Na Mona had ended its craft analyst scheme as part of a cost-reduction plan. Management Science And Finance argued that the offer did not adequately address losses in pay and conditions, particularly pension rights. Bord Na Mona said it had made a reasonable offer and cited its financial position. The Court considered the offer reasonable in the circumstances and recommended that the union accept it.
