Labour Court rejects overtime claim but backs Abbott seniority reading

By Eimear Byrne

Labour Court ·

In 1989, the Labour Court recommended that Abbott Ireland Limited reject the Irish Transport and General Workers Union’s claim for compensation for two filler operators’ lost weekend overtime. The recommendation was signed on 23 February 1989. The Court found the operators had suffered no loss from the new filler machine and did not recommend conceding the union’s claim. It also recommended that the union accept Abbott’s interpretation of seniority, based on actual periods worked, in the particular circumstances.
