In 1989, the Labour Court recommended that National Busworkers Union accept Bus Eireann's proposed roster changes in Dundalk. The recommendation was dated 17 February 1989. The company proposed combining school route work with a regular bus service. The union said the changes would remove overtime from regular drivers and transfer some work to a part-time driver, contrary to an agreement it cited. Bus Eireann said the overtime arrangement was temporary and a permanent change was needed to run services efficiently. The company also said its school transport allocation had been reduced by 18%, or £5.8 million. The Court found the proposed roster was not contrary to the 1972 Agreement because the existing arrangement was temporary, and recommended that the union accept the company's rostering arrangements.
