In 1989, the Labour Court did not recommend concession of the Irish Transport And General Workers Union’s claim to restore a pay differential for three workers at Warner Lambert (Ireland) Limited. The union argued the differential had existed since 1972. Warner Lambert said the depanners’ improved rates reflected their agreement to remove output restrictions, while the leading hands had not made the same changes. The Court said the depanners’ new rates reflected their increased contribution to efficiency and that maintaining the differential could no longer be justified. The recommendation was signed on 16 February 1989.
