In 1989, the Labour Court recommended that Arnott & Company Limited raise its compensation offer to workers affected by renovations at its Grafton Street branch, from £125 and £75 to £200 and £125 respectively. The payments were to settle the claim for disturbance and lost commission. The recommendation was dated 10 February 1989. The Irish Distributive And Administrative Trade Union brought the claim for 45 workers. It cited noise, dust and disruption during the work, as well as lost commission. The company said disruption exceeded normal levels on about six days and defended its tiered offer.
