In 1989, the Labour Court recommended that the Electrical Trades Union accept proposals put forward at conciliation in its deployment dispute with Cadbury Ireland PLC. The recommendation was dated 9 February 1989. The Court said existing agreements entitled the company to deploy electricians on shifts and in areas needed to meet business requirements. The union had argued that the proposals could burden workers unfamiliar with machinery and that training was needed.
