The Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Irish Transport And General Workers' Union's claim to reinstate a worker dismissed during probation at L. D. Intercon Limited. The company, which made power cords and cables at its plant in Birr, Co Offaly, said the dismissal followed concerns about safety hairnet use, an extended break and inconsistent production efficiency. The union disputed the grounds and said she had received only a written warning about the break. In a recommendation signed on 8 February 1989, the Court cited the probationary nature of her employment and several aspects of her conduct it considered potentially unsatisfactory.
