The Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Irish Transport And General Workers' Union's claim for Limerick Corporation working foremen to receive the eating-on-site allowance from the same date as general operatives. The union argued that foremen did physical work similar to general operatives. The corporation said foremen's pay was linked to craftsmen and that nationally agreed pay relationships determined when the allowance applied. The Court cited the workers' pay relationship with craftsmen in declining the claim. Its recommendation was signed on 9 February 1989.
