In 1989, the Labour Court recommended that Wessel Limited and Irish Transport And General Workers' Union accept amended proposals to settle a dispute over new work practices. The package included a £200 once-off payment, a 6% basic-pay increase effective from 9 November, and a one-week bonus due in summer. It also included two extra days' leave for four-group shift workers and a 36.50% shift premium for them. The recommendation was signed on 7 February 1989.
